Probably the most frequently asked question received by Dr. Dish is: “How can I operate two satellite receivers independently using only one coax cable?” Thus far the answer has always been “You need a second cable and a Twin or Quad LNBF”. Even those who have hard drive receivers with two tuners would not be able to get around using a second cable.

Even though a Twin or Quad LNB is still needed, the additional coax cable for the second receiver or tuner can be omitted. It’s not always that easy to run a second cable from the antenna to a receiver. The entire kit consists of a Stacker, a Destacker, the necessary coax cables, mounting hardware and an installation manual. The small Stacker box is mounted directly behind the LNB and comes with two inputs (5-2,150 MHz and 950-2,150 MHz) and one output (5-3,550 MHz). Just by looking at the frequency ranges you can see that the Stacker module places the individual IF segments in line with each other. When used with a multi-switch, the signals from a terrestrial antenna can also be carried. The Destacker is installed in the home.

Two coax cables link the Destacker to a pair of receivers or to a PVR with two tuners. The Destacker takes the incoming 5-3,350 MHz Range and converts it back to 950-2,150 MHz for satellite receivers and 5-2,150 MHz so that terrestrial signals can also be routed to a TV. The entire installation is completed in only a few minutes and the result is extraordinary. With just a minor loss in the IF range (4dB) it was possible to operate two satellite receivers entirely independent of each other. It didn’t matter if the first receiver was in the upper band or the lower band nor did it matter what polarization was in use, the other receiver could do whatever it wanted to. When used on a PVR with two tuners (like the Topfield TF4000PVR), one program transmitted in vertical polarization in the upper band can be recorded while at the same time a second program can be watched from the same satellite independent of the first program.

Conclusion:

Whenever it becomes difficult to run a second cable so that two receivers could be operated independently of each other on one antenna, it would be nearly impossible to do without the Stacker-Destacker from Johansson. The installation is made easy with the included accessories and the user manual. The signal loss in the IF range is a mere -4dB resulting in very little reduction in signal quality.
