Review:

Don't get fooled by the millions of moving pixels which are indeed amazing the first 5 minutes !

HUMAX HDCI-2000 has a tiny but extremly annoying problem: the hardware cpu power seems not able to handled correctly the mpeg decompression and generates a color reduced picture.

Watch carefully skies, face skins and blurry backgrounds. You will shorty notice than instead of progressive smooth shades of colors, you get blocks of uniform colors shaking nervously (the receiver hesitate between to colors it can handle. Using HDMI on a Full HD Bravia Sony LCD, Component, Svideo and RGB on a Professional Sony Monitor will show the same solarisation effect. You can't escape.

In SD low biterate programs like ITV, the compresion artefacts are magnified, making the picture look dirty. On BBCHD, extra noise is added between them by the receiver: the reason again is because of the high quality of the program here, the hesitation between two colors is done at the pixel level, not at the mpeg block level. Just watch carefully when the logo is displayed: flames around the logo are generated with steps of colors for sure were not in the graphist mind when he created it.

Maybe competitors like PACE and their hundres of CPU MIPS (unit of computing power to uncompress the digital signal), will offer to the consumer the real HDTV with its full quality.

A quick remember: HDTV = higher sharpness + lower artefact + higher color depth + multichannel audio + when possible, a higher smoothness of movments. Humax HDCI-2000 lacks in color depth and generate extra artefacts and noise. Once you notice the problem, you will watch/see only that on your new super large flat screen. Nothing to be proud of, beleive me.
